Our island is tiny. It is three minutes from here to just about anywhere: three minutes to the school, three minutes to the boat, three minutes to the shops, garage, post office, library... You can't get really lost. Sooner or later there's the water again.
We have discovered an interesting problem. No matter where she goes on the Mainland Liddy thinks in terms of three minutes. Australia is a big country & our capital city is hardly small. Twice in the last month I have found myself on the end of the phone, refedex to hand, issuing directions down the phone line to a child who has not reached where she was going in three minutes & panicked. It is not good when Liddy panics. Her CFS kicks in & she suffers increasing amounts of 'blonde moments'. Walking into a shop & asking a complete stranger for directions makes her quail. Yesterday, finding me glued to the end of the phone for the second time that day, her father just shook his head & said, 'She'll be ringing you from Brazil, you know.' That will be interesting; I don't have a refedex for Brazil. Perhaps I should buy one before she leaves.
